From Mile-High Lift Kits to Nautical Star Tattoos - Understanding the So-Cal Bro

From Mile-High Lift Kits to Nautical Star Tattoos - Understanding the So-Cal Bro

Exhaust System

Southern California is full of niche communities ranging from real estate moguls to yoga burnouts chanting about how yantra plus mantra equals tantra. One of the more interesting Southern California subspecies is the So-Cal Bro. By definition, a So-Cal Bro is typically a young male located somewhere in the Bro Triangle, the area between the three points of San Diego, Orange County and San Bernardino County. They often drive trucks with the name of their crew emblazoned in over-sized white calligraphy across the back window. The dress-code consists of trucker hats (on sideways), sunglasses (name brand and worth more than their entire outfit), a white wife-beater tank top (if they're wearing a shirt at all), oversize Dickies-brand shorts (which they're constantly hiking up), arms covered with inexplicable star tattoos and chests that have most likely been shaved or waxed.

While inland bros differ from coastal bros in their choice of footwear and sunglasses (coastal bros are easily identified by their flip-flops), they share a common language- one riddled with the words "Dude!" and "Bro!" In fact, it's not unusual to hear a sentence like: "Dude, bro, that was so sick, dude." Translation: "Wow, that was great!"

While the clothes, language and odd obsession with the time 4:20 make them easy targets, it's hard to fault a guy that spends that much time on his ride. They earn additional respect because most of the work is do-it-yourself. And, with the simplicity of modern upgrades, who can blame them?

A beach parking lot is like a car show with trucks sitting tall on lift kits and leveling kits. Custom-configured to each make, model and year, a Silverado lift kit - and those like it - delivers up to 3" of extra height for more ground clearance and more room for larger tires. Unlike old-school lift kits, current models are engineered to bolt directly onto your stock suspension without any modification. No welding, chopping or fabricating required - just mount the torsion keys, spacers, caps or blocks, and you're riding high...literally, Bro. Leveling kits are similar. They don't require hacksaws, grinders or welding equipment to install, and come with urethane or aluminum spacers that mount inside your coil springs.

No stranger to causing a ruckus, a Bro usually has his ride's volume turned up to 11 with a truck exhaust system. Performance exhaust systems, remove the poorly bent pipes found in stock components and provide pipes with a wider diameter that allow the engine to breathe easier. Because if there's one thing a Bro knows, it's the mechanics of a pipe. Performance exhaust systems are constructed of durable aluminized or stainless steel and maximize your engine's exhaust flow, creating an overall efficiency that translates to a greater fuel economy and a noticeable savings at the pump-not to mention a loud-mouth tone that can only be rivaled by a Bro's car stereo blasting Limp Bizkit's cri de coeur, Give Me Something to Break!

Understanding Fuel System Subaru WRX

Understanding Fuel System Subaru WRX

Exhaust System

One of the keys to achieving the right balance of power is the fuel for a certain amount of air. Showing too much or too little fuel in an engine, which delivers the power, the poor economy and a big question mark against his long life. The main function of engine tuners is to ensure that the engine management system has been programmed to deliver fuel in the right quantity at any time.

Fuel mixture is measured in units of either oxygen or fuel-air(AFR). Also referred to as either lean (small amount of jet fuel) or rich to mention regular (large quantities of jet fuel). What is the right mixture of fuel and air? Although there is no such thing as an absolute all areas of recruitment, the generally accepted "golden rules" of the fuel mixtures:

1 At low power outputs (no increase)-catalyst-equipped vehicles, a fuel mixture of lambda need 0.99 (14.64 AFR) for the best mix of fuel and emissions control is the goal when the OE is working inClosed-Loop. Improvements in fuel savings alone can out of fuel mixtures are made to Lambda 1.05 (AFR 15.4 to 1), but this is done at the expense of the cat converter and exhaust gas temperatures will increase in cruise.

2 medium-power outputs (the transition between on and off boost) provides the best performance at around lambda 0.89 (AFR 13.1 to 1) is reached.

3 The power of high performance, it is interesting because this is the area where the greatest potential for engine damage.Version that I have for the stock motors with internal running about 1.2 bar of boost pressure is usually a good reliable service to Lambda 0.78 (AFR 11.5 to 1) VI. At the same boost pressure, and internal stock Subaru WRX Version VII and new models have the cylinder head combustion room of a completely different combustion properties and distribution of fuel than the previous model, revised and dictated much richer fuel mixtures lambda of about 0.75 (AFR 11, 0 to 1) or lower is best accomplishedMakes it safe.

Typically, air-fuel ratio to be slightly edited for a small increase in power for motors with forged pistons, which is diminished due to their greater strength and heat resistance than OE cast pistons.

Measure fuel mixtures

There are only two ways to fuel mixtures to examine closely the preferred method is to use a broadband high-quality air-fuel ratio meters with five-wire Bosch LSU Lambda. This type of sensor andInstrument can accurately measure fuel mixtures of lambda 0.69 (AFR 10.1 to 1) to 1.30 Lambda (AFR 19.1 to 1) and beyond. Hence the name of the sensor to broadband.

An alternative method for vehicles with compatible flash control unit, fuel mixtures can be read directly from the data stream ECU with Delta Dash, with few exceptions. The OE-oxygen sensor can "see" lean, but can not measure fuel mixtures richer in oxygen 0.76 (AFR 11.2). In addition, a higher rate of storage, sensorPositioning is a problem, as the pressure between the engine and exhaust turbocharger causes a marked reduction in the precision of the sensor.

Any other method of measuring fuel blends as a good DIY meters, reading tea leaves or consulting a psychic have no place in modern high-performance engine tuning.
